Private number plates, compared on what you actually pay
Type a name, initials or a word to search for private number plates.
Checking tax, MOT (yearly safety check) or details for a car instead? For that, use the vehicle check from DVLA.
Why prices differ for the same plate
Some dealers include VAT in the price they list, and others add the 20% when you pay. DVLA's £80 fee works the same way: some prices include it, and others add it at the end. Each dealer also adds its own profit, so we add up every cost and compare the total you pay.
C24 WOW: £499 to £607 in total, across 4 sellers.

All-in is the plate, VAT and DVLA's £80 fee for assigning it, added together. Sellers are always listed cheapest first, and we never change that order. Buying through a link may earn us a fee (commission disclosure).

Plates DVLA sells
DVLA sells brand-new plates at fixed prices. None of them has ever been on a car. You can also bid for plates in DVLA's online auctions. Each auction ends at a set time. DVLA's fixed prices already include VAT and the £80 fee. For the same plate, DVLA was always cheaper than a dealer in our check.
Buy a plate, sell one, or keep it
See what dealers charge in total for plates like yours.
Compare selling straight to a dealer, through a commission listing, or by yourself. The second way is called a commission listing: the dealer advertises your plate and keeps part of the price when it sells.
For £80, you can take the plate off your car and keep it for up to 10 years, then put it on another car.
